Medical Council Defies Court Of Appeal: Files Against SAITM Ruling

The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has filed at the Supreme Court against the ruling made by the Court of Appeal, dated January 31.

The SLMC is asking that the Court of Appeal judgement is declared null and void.

On January 31, the Court of Appeal made a landmark ruling that MBBS degrees from the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine lawful and eligible for Sri Lanka Medical Council accreditation.

University students have been agitating against the Court of Appeal ruling, and the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) joined hand with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) against SAITM.

President Sirisena has promised to look into the issue and provide a solution 'favourable to all'.
