Renovations of the Kirulapone to Kottawa segment of the High Level Road are to be completed by 2019. Project Director W.K Kodithuwakku says Asian Development Bank has granted financial assistance for the 4 staged project. A sum of 3,300 billion rupees will be spent on the entire project.

The Kesbewa to Pokunuvita segment of the Colombo – Horana main road also included in this project. Acquisition of lands are being carried out at present. However, some groups have expressed their objection to remove a bo tree that blocks the high level road in Pannipitiya area. The government will have to acquire the lands of the roadside residence if the bo tree is to be spared. A huge sum of extra money is needed for compensations as well. The relevant authorities are now in talks with Mahanayaka theras and the public to remove the bo tree.
