Speaker Karu Jayasuriya adjourned Parliament till March 21, after unruly behaviour suspended sittings.
A tense situation arose in Parliament between members of the government and the Joint Opposition (JO), when Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella objected to the Speaker allowing more than three members of the Joint Opposition to speak.
Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella had alleged it was a waste of time, and that the House had other matters to attend to of far greater importance.
His comments caused the JO to retort in anger, which resulted in a tense situation, suspending sittings.
