Speaker Rejects The Proposal To Consider NFF As An Independent Group

Speaker Karu Jayasooriya rejected the proposal made by M.P Vimal Weerawansa to consider the parliamentarians National Freedom Front (NFF) as an independent group in the house.

The speaker said that there is no legal provision for this matter as the NFF members has not contested the general election as an accepted political party.

The Speaker noted that MP Weerawansa was part of the six political parties represented in the House.

He further stated that it has been unanimously stated that the six political parties were accepted in the House.

The statement led to a tense situation in the House leading the Speaker of House to adjourn the session for ten minutes.

Joint Opposition Parliamentarians took to the centre isle in Parliament in protest.

Thus, Speaker sternly warn UPFA MP Bandula Gunewardene and subsequently adjourn the session.

NFF was part of United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
