The Indian Ocean Rim Association Leaders’ Summit was held in Jakarta of Indonesia today on a grand scale. President Maithripala Sirisena who is attending to summit met several state leaders today. They exchanged views over the trade and economic affairs. The foreign leaders said that they are ready to work closely with Sri Lanka as the island nation steering forward with a proper vision. Vice President of India Mohammed Hamid Ansari said that the Indian government is ready to extend fullest support to Sri Lanka for development activities.
He also commended President Maithripala Sirisena’s administration for ensuring peace and harmony among different ethnic groups. The President thanked the Indian Vice President for supporting Sri Lanka during the drought situation. The Sri Lankan President also called on South African leader Jacob Suma on the side-line of the summit. The two state leaders pledges to strengthen the ties between the two nations further
. Australian premier Malcolm Turnbull told President Sirisena that Sri Lanka and Australia has a strong relationship. The two state leaders drew attention on energy sector projects to be carried out in Sri Lanka. Mr. Turnbull promised to support energy sector of the country.
The President also met Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina said that her country is determined to strengthen trade and economic ties with Sri Lanka. Accordingly, new agreements are to be signed between the two nations. The President said that a special delegation from Sri Lanka will be sent to Bangladesh to forge trade ties with Bangladesh. The President also invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit Sri Lanka.
