The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has written to the President asking him to take action against lawyers from the Attorney General’s Department who represented the GMOA in the SAITM case at the Court of Appeal.
The GMOA have said they were dissatisfied with the legal representation at the AG’s Department and accused lawyers from the AG’s Department as having withheld important information and not represented the GMOA in their best interest.
On January 27, the Court of Appeal made an order in favour of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), ruling that MBBS holders were eligible to apply to the Sri Lanka Medical Council for accreditation to practice.
The GMOA is against SAITM, accusing the institute of poor standards. They warn the general public will be in danger, if MBBS degree holders are allowed to practice in Sri Lanka.
