President Maithripala Sirisena Reiterated that a hybrid court to prosecute alleged war crimes during the final phase of war would not be established as it was not in line with the country's constitution.
The President's remarks came in the wake of the report presented by the UN Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein to its 34th session on Sri Lanka's current situation.
In his report, the UN Human Rights Commissioner maintained that the government should take necessary measures to set up a hybrid court.
"There are no conflicting views on the matter. How can we set up a hybrid court when the country's constitution does not allow that?," the President queried, outlining the Sri Lankan government's position on the matter.
The same sentiments were expressed by Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who said the setting up of a hybrid court was not 'politically feasible' in Sri Lanka's context.
