A special discussion on the development of Mental Health Services was held between former President Chandrika Bandaranaike and Health Minister Rajitha Senratne recently, at the Health Ministry.
At the discussion, attention was paid towards providing necessary facilities to Mental Health Specialists and extending Mental Health Service to the rural areas.
It was decided to provide a special training to the doctors and the nurses on Mental Health Services - a group of 100 officers will be trained first.
Students will be recruited to a proposed University of Nursing will be trained on mental diseases.
Health Secretary Anura Jayawickreme, Director General of Health Services (Act.) Dr. Jayasundara Bandara, and the Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Lakshmi Somatunghe were also present.
