Kurunegala MP Mahinda Rajapaksa says he will file a lawsuit against the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance for citing him as the Minister of Finance when his term had expired.
He was referring to an issue arose during the hearings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into the Issuance of Treasury Bonds on Thursday.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa made this statement during an event in Colombo.
He further stated that, “I was no longer the Minister of Finance after the 9th of January. I wish to file a lawsuit against those who used my name as the Minister of Finance”.
The February 27, 2015 Bond issue raged controversy when 10 billion rupees worth Bonds were put on sale even though the public notice was for just one million.
It was alleged that a firm associated with then Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran’s son-in-law was benefited from the deal through insider information.
