President Directs IGP To Prepare An Active Programme To Prevent Ragging In Universities

President Maithripala Sirisena says minority of students carry out inhuman ragging in the universities causing disruptions to the education of disciplined majority. The President therefore instructed the IGP to focus special attention to eliminate ragging. A systematic programme should be prepared with the help of the university authorities in this connection. The President pointed out that the government has a greave responsibility regarding the future of the university students. The President made these remarks addressing the 75th anniversary celebration of the Mathugama Ananda Sathralaya.

 The President further said that the government will never allow any group to enforce the law of the jungle in universities. The reported incident of ragging in brutal ragging in Peradedniya area is a black mark in the higher education history. Therefore, the top police officials in the Kandy area should take stern action against the offenders. The President appealed to the students to carry out their education activities in a responsible disciplined manner.
