The Cabinet of Ministers, in January 2017, granted approval to Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa’s proposal to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) Act No. 2 of 2013 – relating to the rights of detainees - access to legal counsel.

The Cabinet today approved the proposal to publish the Amendment Bill, prepared by Legal Draftsman and cleared by the Attorney General, in the gazette and present it in parliament for approval.
