President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Sri Lankan-born venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya as Sri Lanka’s ICT ambassador.
Chamath Palihapitiya, founder and CEO of Social Capital, met President Sirisena and expressed his willingness to support the digital economy efforts being undertaken by the Sri Lankan government, back in 2015.
Further he played a pivotal role in getting the Google Loon project to Sri Lanka to provide universal connectivity to all Sri Lankans and help the digital transformation of Sri Lanka
The Silicon Valley grandee spent four years as an executive at Facebook during a huge growth period for the social network. He became the youngest VP in AOL's history at the age of 26.
