The Delimitation Committee Report will be gazetted tomorrow, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Mustapha said today.

The Delimitation Committee, headed by Asoka Pieris, was tasked with reviewing the demarcation of electoral boundaries in local government wards.

The report was delayed several time in the last year, giving rise to rumour the government was trying to delay the local government elections.

The final report by the Committee was handed over to Minister Mustapha in January, but in a twist of events, the Minister refused to accept it, saying the report did not contain the signatures of all four members of the Committee.

The Committee is comprised of United National Party’s A.S.M. Misbar, the United People’s Freedom Front’s K. Saliya, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna’s Upul Kumaraperuma and the Tamil National Alliance’s Professor B. Balasundarampillai.
