The 29th death anniversary of popular artiste and veteran politician Vijaya Kumaranathunga is commemorated today. Late Vijaya Kumaranatunga's first film was Hanthane Kathawa, in which he played the lead role. Since then, in a career that spanned nearly two decades, he acted in 114 films including Eya Den Loku Lamayek, Ponmani, Bambaru Avith, Ganga Addara, Baddegama, Paradige, Maha Gedara, Kedapathaka Chaya and Kristhu Charithaya. He also won several awards.

He won the most popular actors award in Sri Lanka from 1983 to 1988. The commemoration ceremony will be held today in front of Vijaya Kumaranathunga statue at Polhengoda, Colombo. Many prominent personalities including artistes and well wishes will be present on this occasion.
