The Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull commended the progress shown by Sri Lanka in establishing national reconciliation and strong economy. The Australian Premier extended fullest support to establish national reconciliation among the communities and other related efforts. Mr. Turnbull also said the Australian government is ready to extend practical support to each and every effort taken in this regard. The Australian Prime Minister made these remarks in a joint statement declared after meeting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe in Australia.
The Australian Premier further said official visit of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe will strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries. Mr. Wickremasinghe commenced a four day visit to Australia on the 13th of this month. The tour is also organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The discussion between the Prime Ministers of the two countries focused on democracy, rule of law, social justice and co-existence between the communities in Sri Lanka. Australian Premier also pointed out Sri Lanka has been a central hub in the Indian Ocean. As a result, the Island has become a focal point and a deciding factor of economic development of the region.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe also stated the bilateral ties between the two countries are further strengthened through the cricket matches.
