Fairly strong gusty winds of up to 40-50kmph are expected over the country today, the Meteorological Department said.

Strong winds of up to 60kmph will sweep the surrounding seas.

The Meteorological Department said there would also be a slight change in the prevailing dry weather from tonight, particularly in the Northern and Eastern parts of the island.

Light showers will occur in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district, it said.

Dry weather will prevail elsewhere.
