Sri Lanka’s First Hybrid Power Plant Will Launch Today In Jaffna

Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya will open the first hybrid power plant in Sri Lanka, in Jaffna today.

The plant, with a capacity of 60 KW to generate electricity using wind power, solar power, and diesel, is located on the Eluvathivu Island.

It was built with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank and the Ceylon Electricity Board.

The plant was set up with aim of promoting of green energy. One unit generated by the hybrid power plant will cost about Rs. 9.14, the Government Information Department said.
