The Speaker’s Chair overturned while sessions underway in Parliament yesterday.
The incident occurred when UNP MP Ananda Kumarasiri got up to leave the Chair – as he pushed the Chair back, it toppled over.
MPs rushed to the podium to help replace the Chair, while a shaken MP Kumarasiri made way for UPFA MP Shehan Semasinghe, who took over next.
UPFA MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage however, addressing the House, opined that the Chair overturning was an ill omen.
“This has never happened before,” the UPFA MP said.
