The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) Act will be amended to repeal the section that authorises the OMP to enter into agreements with individuals or organizations to perform its tasks.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to have the Legal Draftsman amend the Act that was passed in Parliament on August 23, 2016.
Paragraph (a) of Article 11 states ‘the OMP shall have the following general powers to enter into agreements, (a) as are necessary to achieve the mandate of the OMP, with any person or organization.’
