The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) will make a final decision on SAITM when it meets on February 17, a spokesperson for the SLMC said yesterday.
The management of the SLMC met yesterday to discuss the controversy surrounding granting accreditation to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
Sri Lanka Medical Council President Professor Carlo Fonseka also attended the meeting.
On January 31, the Court of Appeal made the ruling that the Sri Lanka Medical Council could give SAITM graduates accreditation.
The ruling caused controversy with local medical students who feel that by recognising the degree offered by SAITM, the government was undermining free education.
