Relevant authorities have been notified to ensure the security of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told Parliament today.
A plot to assassinate the TNA parliamentarian was uncovered last month after the Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) of the Sri Lankan Police arrested four former LTTE cadres on January 13.
That the Prime Minister’s Office had subsequently alerted the TNA parliamentarian about a ‘serious threat’ on his life was revealed, after sources close to Sumanthiran confirmed he had received the warning.
Speculation is rife that diaspora groups supporting the LTTE had orchestrated the attempt on the Tamil legislators life.
