The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) said they would join hands with the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
The FSP, at a press conference this morning, said they would back any trade union action against the ‘unlawful’ South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine and demanded the campus is immediately closed.
On Monday (6), the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) united in battle against the SAITM citing ‘a responsibility to safeguard the rights of the patients.’
They allege the general public is danger because of the Court of Appeal ruling that holds SAITM medical degree holders qualified for accreditation from the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
Last week, over 2,000 university students marched into Colombo to protest the Court of Appeal judgment made on January 31. The students were demanding the SAITM campus is closed immediately as it posed a threat to free education.
