Two Police teams have been appointed to probe the attack on South Asia Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) CEO Dr. Sameera Senaratne, Police said.
Dr. Senaratne was set upon by two unidentified gunmen last evening as he was leaving the SAITM campus in Malabe.
The gunmen had arrived on a motorcycle and fled after the shooting, from which the SAITM CEO escaped unhurt.
Police said the two gunmen had worn full-face helmets to conceal their identity.
SAITM has been the focus of attention the past weeks, as university students poured to the streets in protest of a Court of Appeal ruling that the degree offered by SAITM was valid.
Local university students are agitating for the private SAITM campus to be closed for fear it will pave the way for local free education to be privatized.
