Canadian diplomatic missions in the South Asian region are coming together once again to organise the second edition of the Regional Women Leaders Dialogue in February 2017.
Young women leaders from Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, and Pakistan will come together for a four-day long program in Colombo and Delhi between February 5 and 10, 2017. This year’s theme is Young Women Leaders as Agents of Change.

When women succeed, we all succeed which is why Canada remains committed domestically and internationally to the empowerment of women and girls, and continues to take steps to encourage women’s leadership and democratic participation, engagement and representation. When women cannot participate equally, our communities, economies, and our countries pay a cost in terms of growth and development and peace and security.
The program will focus on empowering young women to become agents of change through leadership and meaningful participation in political and social structures and processes, enabling them to realize their full potential and contribute to their community and country. Program elements will include; capacity building sessions, panel discussions with university students, think tanks and civil society organizations, and youth and gender focused groups, and media interactions. Capacity building sessions will include young leaders working on gender, rights and political participation. The dialogue will address the challenges and opportunities for enhanced participation of young women in leadership roles in society through engagement with women parliamentarians, civil society leaders, academics, students and media.
