President Maithripala Sirisena held a meeting last week at which he advised members of the Procurement Committee to strengthen government procurement process.
The function of the Procurement Committee under the past regime and the new government as well as irregularities that occurred during the previous regime and the present were discussed at length.
The President drew attention to the fact that a new process was necessary to mitigate issues relating to the Procurement Committee as well to ensure public sector procurement process was conducted in an efficient manner.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Procurement Committee Chairman B.N.I.F.A. Wickramasuriya and other officials participated at the meeting.
