February 01, 2017

M.S. Mangala, Vice President of the All Ceylon Telecommunication Employees' Union who was reported missing on Saturday, was found in Ingiriya today.

Ingiriya Police said a van had reportedly dropped the union leader off at Ingiriya.

His wife had filed an entry with the police on Saturday (28) saying her husband had not returned home from work.

He had reportedly called his wife at 1 a.m. and told her he would be home by 2 a.m. but had not returned home that day.

M. S. Magala's wife said he husband usually travelled by motorcycle. The motorcycle had not been returned.

Fear were that the union leader was abducted by forces against him as he has been very vocal against telecom leaders.

M. S. Mangala has been at the forefront of protests against Sri Lanka Telecom since December, calling upon authorities to give them permanent employment.

Of nearly 8,000 workers at Sri Lanka Telecom over 2,000 are employed under the manpower category and they are agitating for permanent employment.
