The bail application filed by National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa was rejected by the Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne and he was remanded till February 7.
Weerawansa has been remanded for the alleged misuse of 40 state vehicles which belonged to the State Engineering Corporation when he was a minister of the Rajapaksa government.
The Magistrate noted that it was apparent that vehicles had been given for the use of Weerawansa's relatives and party members even though they were not officials of the corporation.
Weerawansa had requested for bail on the basis of his daughter's psychological condition.
However, the Magistrate noted that the medical reports submitted do not even have the required signatures of the doctors and therefore could not be considered.
