Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila said that the Joint Opposition was prepared to support President Maithripala Sirisena if he was willing to form an alliance with genuine intentions.
Speaking at a press conference today, Gammanpila said that the Sirisena camp was approaching former President Mahinda Rajapaksa since he cannot win the upcoming local government elections. However, the Sirisena camp will give promises and then do whatever they want, after the election is over, Gammanpila said.
He added that this behaviour was seen from the Sirisena camp during the 2015 General Election. Therefore, former president Rajapaksa will not make a decision on empty promises, he added.
However, if Sirisena was willing to form a genuine alliance against the UNP, the Joint Opposition will support him, Gammanpila said.
He also hinted that this will never happen in reality as the Sirisena - Wickremesinghe alliance is being protected by foreign agencies such as the CIA and the RAW.
