Sri Lanka Army has taken measures to release a large part of a private land occupied by the Army Camp in Omanthai including the famous Omanthai check point to the Vavuniya District Secretary.
The 16 acre land plot was handed over to the Vavuniya District Secretary.
According to Military Spokesman Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne, the Omanthai Army camp will not be removed.
The formal routine duties of the camp at Omanthai would continue as usual.
The 16 acre land to the West of A9 road was handed over to the Vavuniya District Secretary to be given back to the original owners of the land.
The handing over was carried out on with the presence of Vavuniya District Secretary and 563 Brigade Commander.
