The Election Commissioner has taken measures to increase the youth and women representation in upcoming elections. A preliminary discussion in this regard was held at the election secretariat under the patronage of the chairman of the commission Mahinda Deshapriya.

 The Election Commissioner pointed out that lack of youth and women representation in elections is not conducive for democracy. The media has wider responsibility to encourage youth and women for entering into politics.
