Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says a ministerial subcommittee has been appointed under the directive of President Maithripala Sirisena to give recommendations to face adversities caused by the drought. He added that the country is currently experiencing biggest drought after the year 2006. As a result of the dry weather condition it will be difficult to generate hydroelectricity as the level of water of many reservoirs has gone down.
The minister added that generating electricity using diesel or water would be costly. The Minister requested the general public to be collaborative on coping up the situation. He highlighted that it is important to keep air conditions at 26 centigrade Electricity conservation from the general public can save 25 megawatts of power.
