A gazette notification regarding the functioning of the Right to Information Act will be issued on 3rd February, said Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake.
Meeting with the members of the RTI Commission headed by Mahinda Gammanpila, the minister added that all the necessary steps have already been taken by his ministry to implement the act by the due date.
The meeting held yesterday at the Parliamentary Complex was attended by Deputy Minister Karunarathne Paranawithana, Secretary to the ministry Nimal Bopage, and other members of the RTI Commission Mrs. Kishali Pinto Jayawardhana, S.G. Punchihewa, A.W.A. Salim, and Silvi Thiruchandran.
The RTI Act will facilitate the people of the country to access any information relating to the use of public money. This will support to create a transparent administration and to minimize the corruption.
According to the minister, almost all the institutions coming under the RTI Act have already been nominated an Information Officer and they will be given a good training and their appointments.
