Police is likely to arrest several politicians including MPs over the protests in Hambantota on Saturday coinciding with the opening of a new industrial park.

The police had obtained a court order against protests the day before. However, a large crowd had launched a protest which was dispersed by police after using tear gas and water cannons.

Over 20 individuals including several policemen were injured in the clashes.

Several UPFA MPs and other representatives were seen at the site of the protest.
