Politician turned businessman, A.S.P. Liyanage  has been appointed as the ambassador to Qatar, by President Maithripala Sirisena.

He has been appointed as the ambassador since December 31 

Sri Lanka Labour Party leader and millionaire entrepreneur A.S.P. Liyanage was sommened by Commission to investigate on Bribery or Corruption(BC) in connection with his offer to hand over Rs.730 million worth Peacock Mansion at Rajagiriya to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. 

An old Nalandian, Dr. Liyanage has also worked as the Nigerian ambassador in the past.
