Minister of Prisons Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M. Swaminathan critisised State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran for her comments on the slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, saying that her comments were unwarranted and uncalled for.
"I completely disagree with the statement made by State Minister Vijeyakala Maheswaran, about LTTE Leader Prabhakaran. I am of the view that her statement is unwarranted and uncalled for" he told Asian Mirror.
Furthermore, Swaminathan said it was inappropriate to use the event at Kilinochchi for political purposes.
"Yesterday's event was organized to provide compensation to the people who were affected by the fire in Kilinochchi. She should not have used that occasion as a political platform. I think that her statement is inappropriate and I disagree with the views she expressed during yesterday's event" Swaminathan said.
Maheswaran yesterday said that Prabhakaran was an exemplary person and such a person cannot be found among world leaders today. If he had been alive he would have been the Prime Minister or at least a part of the government, she went on to say.
