Nearly 30 MPs To Join Forces With MR's Party ?

December 27, 2016

The 'Joint Opposition' has held discussions with around 10 UNP MPs and 20 SLFP pro-government MPs on forming a broad alliance, political sources said.

The UNP MPs are said to be disappointed at the UNP leadership and they are willing to take a political decision at the 'correct moment' sources within the 'Joint Opposition' also said.

Meanwhile, there are moves within the government's SLFP MPs to change the course of the government. There was visible friction between the UNP and the SLFP MPs over the recent Development (Special Provisions) bill, which has added to the dissatisfaction of the SLFP MPs.

Some SLFP MPs are contemplating on joining forces with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, sources within the 'Joint Opposition' said.
