The Development (Special Provisions) draft bill was unanimously rejected by the Northern Provincial Council today.
The members of the council rejected the bill without a vote when the bill was referred to the Northern Provincial Council for approval.
The draft bill was also defeated by the Uva Provincial Council yesterday. Thirteen provincial councilors voted against the bill while only 9 voted in favor. Chief Minister Chamara Sampath abstained, while other SLFP members voted against the bill. UNP members voted in favour.
