Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran reminded the government of three agreements it had made affecting the people of the north.
Speaking to the media after a meeting of the Tamil People's Council at Jaffna Library yesterday, Wigneswaran said that the government of Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2009 came to an agreement with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. It should be investigated as to if even the present government has done its part to fulfill those assurances, Wigneswaran said.
He also pointed out that the government co-sponsored a resolution in Geneva UNHRC meetings. Also the government has signed up for the Sustainable Development Goals which affect all people. It should also be checked if the government is doing enough to fulfill these agreements, said the NPC CM.
Representatives of the TPC including EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran took part in the meeting.
