The Education Services Ministry is one of the 'smallest' ministries in the government that handles only a limited number of responsibilities.
It was widely known in the political circles that Minister Duminda Dissanayake was dissatisfied with the treatment meted out to his father by the government, after the latter lost his position as the Chief Minister of the North Central Province.
After Berty Premalal Dissanayake's demise, his electorate was handed over to North Central Province Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith, who was actually the arch-enemy of the Dissanayakes.
Dimunda Dissanayake earned the ire of several seniors of the government when he said in his father's funeral that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was a "second mother" to him.
