Mirihana Police is probing into complaints in connection with the incident where an unidentified group writing the word 'Sinhale' on the walls of some Muslin houses in the Nugegoda area.
However, the Media Spokesman said he had not received further details over the investigations.
Several residents told Asian Mirror that the Police could identify the culprits by checking CCTV footage taken from houses in the area.
Meanwhile, police also said that the CID has launched a separate investigation in to the incident. The CID have recorded statements from several residents as part of this investigation.
Sinhale, a campaign initiated by an ultra - nationalist Sinhala Buddhist group reached a new height yesterday with an unknown group writing the same word on the walls of some houses belonging to Muslims in the Nugegoda area.
People from the area said it could be a well-orchestrated move to provoke the Muslims in the Nugegoda area and push them into a clash of some sort.
"The word has been written on the walls and gates of Muslim houses on Saturday night. It is clear that their main target has been Muslims," a resident told Asian Mirror.
