Police STF and anti - riot squads have been deployed for Sri Lanka Cricket elections commencing shortly.
The election for the country's most influential sports body is to be held at the Sri Lanka Cricket head office, Colombo 07. The election is scheduled to start at 9 am.
Candidates contesting for position have been banned from bringing their weapons and private bodyguards to the SLC election.
Two members from the same political camp, Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala and Minister Arjuna Ranatunga have become key contenders at the election. Ranatunga, the country's only World Cup winning cricket captain, is backing his brother Nishantha Ranatunga vying for the top post of the SLC.
It was reported last evening that Jayantha Dharmadasa, a prominent businessman and a candidate for the SLC top post, has withdrawn from the race.
