The Police today refuted claims that they have halted investigations regarding Hirunika Premachandra's involvement in the abduction of a youth in Dematagoda last month.

Speaking to media today, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the investigations are being conducted according to the Attorney General's advice.

On December 21, a 34-year-old man was abducted and allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals who had arrived in a Land Rover Defender owned by MP Hirunika Premachandra.

It was later revealed that a clandestine love affair between the victim and the wife of one of the suspects had led to the incident.

As per the advice of the Attorney General, police recorded statements from the woman’s husband, who is one of the remanded suspects, and the woman's 11-year-old daughter, ASP Gunasekara said. The two statements recorded were handed over to the Attorney General today, he further said.

These were recorded as part of the investigation on Premachandra's role, Gunasekara added.

Furthermore, ASP Gunasekara pointed out that the AG had asked for visuals of a recent press conference by Premachandra where she spoke of the incident. The police will handover the visuals to the AG after they receive them from the relevant media organizations, Gunasekara said.
