Former IGP Indra de Silva passed away at the Police Hospital today, the Police said.
An old pupil of Dharmasoka Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda, de Silva later graduated from the Peradeniya University.
After joining the police in 1972, de Silva served in several areas, including the North and the East. In 1980, he became an SP and in 1985 a Senior SP. He was appointed DIG in 1992 and held top posts such as Director Public Relations at Police Headquarters and DIG Administration. He was appointed a Senior DIG in 2000 before becoming IGP.
