Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila stated today that the 'Joint Opposition' will take legal action within the next to weeks against the indefinite postponement of the Local Government Elections.

Addressing a media briefing today, Gammanpila said that there were no legal provisions to indefinitely postpone the election.

He challenged Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faizer Mustapha to explain the legal basis for this indefinite postponement.

Gammanpila said that the postponement was against the existing laws and also violates the democratic norms. The people should be given the right to elect their representatives at the ground level, he pointed out.
