Kolonnawa Urban Council Chairman Ravindra Udayashantha was remanded till January 4 after he was arrested this morning over the assault of four Satyagraha campaigners at Meetotamulla.

Udayashantha appeared in court through a motion when the magisterial inquiry on the alleged assault was taken up by Colombo Additional Magistrate Augusta Fernando.

The Additional Magistrate reprimanded the Wellampitiya Police for not arresting the UC Chairman despite the evidence against him. The police responded by informing the court that both sides have lodged complaints over the incident.

Several Satyagraha campaigners, including Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage, were hospitalized on last Sunday following the assault. They were protesting against the garbage dump at Meetotamula.
