Next Local Government election will be held in June 2016, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne said today.

The election would be based on mixed electoral system, and not on preferential system alone, He added.

Senaratne commented this today, at the weekly cabinet briefing at the Government Information Department.

The government extended the tenures of some of the LG bodies and transferred others under the control of a special commissioner.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe recently stated that the local government elections will be held before the next Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April, 2016.
