The Colombo Municipal Treasurer has written a letter to the organizers of Enrique Iglesias’s musical show at CR and FC Grounds on December 20, asking them to pay the revenue that is lost to the CMC on account of the show, which amounts to a staggering Rs 20.9 million
Widely considered to be the king of the Latin Pop, Enrique Iglesias held his show in Colombo as part of his “Love and Sex” world tour.
The organizers had sold out tickets of the show without the official CMC seal on them. On top of it, the show was reportedly worked out at the CR and FC Grounds without permission from the Council. The CMC issues a license for events of this nature, based on the recommendation of the Public Performance Board. No such license was obtained for this event, reports said.
The CMC is expected to call for an explanation from the CR and FC Ground Manager on the incident.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the CMC have seized illegal tickets of the show on sale several days prior to the concert and even on the day of the concert. The organizers have reportedly issued a significantly higher number of tickets than what they have declared to the CMC, thus depriving it of a staggering amount of tax revenue.
The Council is also expected to institute legal action against the event's organizers.
