A defender belonging to MP Hirunika Premachandra was involved in an abduction of a youth in Demetagoda yesterday, according to preliminary inquiries.

According to the police, the suspects involved in the act have been identified.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that Premachandra had promised to hand over those allegedly involved in the abduction. However, suspects are yet to turn themselves in.

He also said that the victim had given a statement to the Dematagoda Police last night, claiming that he was assaulted. He was admitted to National Hospital for treatment.

The police will take steps to arrest those involved, ASP Gunasekara also said.

Dematagoda Police is conducting further investigations.
