Police prevented UNP MP Vadivel Suresh from taking two 5 liter cans of kerosene inside the Parliament a short while ago, in an apparent attempt of suicide.

Suresh, an MP from Badulla District, made a fiery speech in Parliament yesterday, threatening to set himself on fire if the daily wage of the estate workers was not increased to Rs 1000.

However Minister John Seneviratne today said that the daily wage of estate workers will be increased by Rs 100 from next January.
