The Supreme Court today considered nine Special Determination Applications regarding the amendments to the Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure introduced by the government.
The Attorney General informed the court that the government has decided not to pursue with the two bills.
The petitioners did not withdraw their petitions and reserved the right to challenge the provisions if they are re-introduced.
The Supreme Court conveyed that it will report on the proceedings regarding the Applications to the Speaker and the President.
Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said that the proposed Amendments to the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure will not be presented to Parliament on January 8.
